Each year, students from Wise School in Los Angeles have proven to be fierce competitors at Odyssey of the Mind, an international, creative, problem-solving competition. Each year, thousands of school teams in 26 countries—including China, Russia, India, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and more—compete at local and state levels to advance to the world championships in May.

For many years, the team from Wise School has been named California State Champions and has placed in top positions among hundreds of the best teams worldwide.

Odyssey of the Mind teams at Wise School benefit from the space and resources of the school’s Project Studio, a state-of-the-art engineering-focused facility on campus. Project Studio was built 10 years ago and is the only STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)-based facility of its kind in Los Angeles.

There is no limit to what students and their teachers can accomplish in this STEAM lab. Students work in small groups to apply hands-on engineering projects to any concept, across any field of study, from literature to social studies to math. Through the school’s project-based, cooperative learning format, each Wise School student is assigned a role and is prepared for the workforce.

Though Wise School is affiliated with Stephen Wise Temple, the school itself—grades pre-K through 6—is made up of a diverse, international community. It is the only Jewish Day School awarded the 5-Star Gifted Award by the California Association for the Gifted.
