500x_nails1113009In light of World AIDS Day tomorrow, Kiehl’s has collaborated with designer Derek Lam on a commemorative quilt, comprising of 48 patches made by Kiehl’s customers and staff from more than 30 countries, which Lam stitched together and completed with a personal finishing touch. The quilt will hang in Kiehl’s NYC flagship store at 13th St. and 3rd Ave. for a week starting tomorrow, before it makes its tour around the world and gets auctioned off for charity. Korean pop star Rain’s $40-million film, “Ninja Assassin,” got its ass kicked this holiday weekend, as it came in sixth place at $13.1 million, bringing the five-day total to $21 million. This makes it the lowest grossing opening of the decade (ouch) for The Wachowski Brothers, who are known for their huge box office hit, “The Matrix” trilogy. [via Time]

Though designer nails aren’t so big here in the U.S., these freaking adorable “Hello Kitty” nails (photo to the right) shown by a nail artist during the Tokyo Nail Expo 2009 at Tokyo Big Sight on Nov. 30 sure caught our attention. So kawaii! The nail industry in Japan has grown to nearly 200 million Japanese yen in 2008. [via Jezebel]
