All my non-Asian friends think Asians have perfect hair — healthy, thick, sleek and shiny and most importantly, straight. While it’s definitely flattering, I know I’d be kidding myself if I thought I could just wake up to gorgeous-looking hair.
My hair has its quirks and needs as much care as anyone else. For one thing, my hair gets very oily quickly, so it’s a MUST that I wash my hair every day. Moreover, my hair tends to be flat on top so it lacks volume, while it’s wavy at the ends. On the other side of the spectrum, Asian hair can be thick, coarse and straight so it tends to be harder to style, especially if you’re trying to keep a curl.
Either way, a great tip I have for all Asian hair is to buy a shine-boosting shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair shiny and sleek. Since our hair tends to be dark, boosting shine will add some depth and give our hair some dimension. If you blow-dry your hair, use a big round brush and start from the roots. For most Asian hair textures, hot rollers are recommended when curling hair. For the trendy mussed-up look, tie a messy bun and literally sleep on your hair at night and wake up to all-natural bed head. Think of how much time you’ll save in the morning!
