In case you haven’t heard already, the new health care act has expanded coverage for young Americans and it’s about time. According to a report from the Commonwealth Fund, 13.7 million young Americans who are uninsured could get medical insurance coverage by 2014 when Obama’s health care bill goes into full effect. To put this into perspective, about one-third of the 46 million uninsured are young adults between the ages of 19 to 29. Whether you’re freelancing, in the process of job hunting, or applying to graduate school, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing that your parents will quit nagging you about purchasing your own health insurance plan because you can be eligible for Medicaid and government subsidies for private coverage. Other incentives of the new health care act are that contraceptives and birth control will be covered by the plans. It’s nice to know that young people haven’t been completely forgotten in the health-care debate. Now someone please, give us some jobs!
