Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2009 Annual ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year Award, which recognizes Asian American women in high school or college, who are proven leaders and role models in their community.
ASPIRE, which stands for Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence, is a non-profit organization formed by a group of professional Asian American women who seek to empower Asian American girls through mentoring, community events, and youth leadership programs.
Last year’s winner was Mihiri Tillakaratne, the founder and executive director of Empower a Village, a non-profit organization which serves to bring social and health programs to rural communities in Sri Lanka.
Mochi readers, make sure to nominate your friends and peers who you know deserve this title! The deadline for submitting nominations is July 31, 2009. Any person, of any age and gender, can submit nominations for this award, so start sending your nominations! The winner of this award will be notified on September 12, 2009. Prizes will be allotted to the winner and the runners-up. The award presentation will be held on October 3, 2009 at the 5th Annual Asian American Women in Leadership Conference.
