We’ve always known that Asian countries take their education far more seriously than Americans, but tutoring director Richard Eng in Hong Kong carries the concept of academic achievement to an entirely new level. Eng is the owner of 12 tutoring schools in Hong Kong and has recently opened another one in Japan. The schools cater to a total of 50,000 students, and Eng himself rakes in an income of around 1.5 million USD per year.

In the past few decades, tutoring schools have become one of the most lucrative businesses in Hong Kong, and an estimated one in three students attend them, paying around $130 USD per month.

And it’s not just the top-dogs that make all the money. According to CNN, the average celebrity tutor earns around $120,000 USD annually, more than double the salary of a government teacher in either Hong Kong or the US. To watch the entire CNN feature video, click here.
