While you’re browsing the Sephora skincare product aisles, you may notice Jurlique, a skincare brand that boasts its use of all-natural ingredients. Established in Australia by a couple who combined botany and chemistry to create pure and clean products, Jurlique’s philosophy on skincare has been supported by a series of environmental movements, allowing the brand to flourish for the past 25 years. All the flowers that are found in their products are handpicked and some products, like Love Balm, are made by hand. In an effort to reach out to their Asian customer base (there is a strong brand presence in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan), Jurlique has introduced a new line of whitening and age-prevention products specifically made for Asian skin—which can be sensitive and oily due to living in humid climates. At a recent event at Jurlique’s San Francisco location, marketing director Janice Lee described their movement towards Asian consumers: “Teen girls really need to take care of their skin in terms of using quality products to help prevent skin aging. And you’re never too young to start! It really starts with using great cleanser to remove any makeup or oiliness. Treat your skin right—it goes a long way,” Lee says.
The new products (including the Purely Bright line, the Rose Moisture Plus with Antioxidant Complex, and the Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Gel Mask) not only help brighten and lighten skin, which are good for helping heal acne scars, but are also lighter in texture, so it doesn’t feel too oily and heavy. Lee says, “Growing up, I didn’t have great skin because I had a lot of acne, and I don’t really want to wear a lot of makeup. But having really great skin is the foundation for any woman.”
