As previously mentioned, Harry Shum Jr. is getting a bigger plot line in the new season of Glee, which premieres this Tuesday, September 20 at 8pm EST on FOX. Moreover, news has spread that viewers will be meeting his parents, and it was recently confirmed that Tamlyn Tomita, who you may recognize from the 1993 Asian American film The Joy Luck Club, and Keong Sim, who has starred in hit TV shows, such as Rescue Me and Law & Order Criminal Intent, have been cast to play Mike’s parents.

The decision to include Mike Chang’s parents in the story line is part of Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s goal to put other cast members in the spotlight. When you think about it, we don’t know very much about Mike Chang’s character, except his excellent dancing skills, of course. According to Entertainment Weekly, Mike Chang’s parents will make their debut on the third episode, airing October 4.
