2011 was a pretty good year for movies in my opinion. For me, “Fast Five” was one of the standouts. If you’re not familiar with the film, it’s part of the “Fast and Furious” sequels that have captured audiences with glamorous, exotic sports cars driven by a group of bad boys. The original cast, which includes Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, and Jordana Brewster, are all in the film, but it also features actors that were in the past installments, such as Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris from “2 Fast 2 Furious” and Sung Kang from “Tokyo Drift.”

But I’m not the only who that thinks “Fast Five” is a great film, despite it being the fifth movie in a franchise that isn’t based on an all-time bestselling book. TIME magazine recently put together their Top Ten Movies of 2011 and placed “Fast Five” in at number 10. The esteemed film critic Richard Corliss says “Fast Five” made the list because it was a simple, yet very action-packed film. It paid homage to what action movies are supposed to be.

Congrats to director Justin Lin for making this list; because I don’t know of any other Hollywood Asian American-directed films making national magazine lists, and a great one at that.
