Somebody may have just ousted BeneFit as the queen of packaging. Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand Tokidoki, known for their cute anime-adorned bags and T-shirts (occasionally sported by Fergie), is bringing their colorful designs to the world of makeup. The cosmetic line, which is presented exclusively at Sephora, launched online a few weeks ago and is slowing hitting stores throughout April. I played with some of their products at my local Sephora store and here are my new brand favorites:
Perfetto Eyeliner: This liquid eyeliner comes in a pen form in the basic colors (black, purple, blue) and also in some unique shades (white, pink, light green). The tip is extremely firm and fine, and is chiseled at just the right angle to draw the perfect cat-eye. Not to mention, it goes on smoothly and pigmented, and refuses to budge. This beats any other liquid eyeliner pen I’ve used, including the coveted MAC Penultimate liner.
Prisma Lip Gloss: I love its texture since it’s not too thick, thin or sticky, but what stood out to me the most were the colors. “Monkey Pirate” has the perfect shimmery nude/brown shade to go with my skin. Just for fun, I tried the green shade, “SANDy,” which to my surprise went on as a normal clear gloss. It’s nothing spectacular, but if you are looking to have some fun with a plain clear gloss, pulling out a green tube will certainly provoke comments.
Cromatico Eyeshadow: The quality ranges for this eyeshadow, which is packaged in a cute skull-and-crossbones case. Beware of glitter fallout for the glittery shades and poor pigmentation for the matte ones. But I thoroughly enjoyed the shimmery shades, especially “Diamante”—a gorgeous pale champagne shade.
And of course, the packaging. The blushes and face powders come in cases decorated with playful cartoons and a removable charm. Tokidoki also offers makeup cases and bags, similarly covered with bright illustrations. Some Sephora stores carrying the line may also have Tokidoki key chains or tank tops. Grab them while you can!
