As the summer days approach, eyeshadow primer is a must in order to keep color from sliding off your eyelids. We compare two great brands: Eyes Lips Face’s (E.L.F.) Mineral Eyeshadow Primer, at only $3 a tube, and the celebrated Urban Decay Primer Potion, which sells at $18 a tube.
E.L.F.’s primer is equal to Urban Decay’s in terms of vibrancy, as it keeps your eyeshadow looking just as bright. The same goes with the wear time: with either primer, my eyeshadow can last from seven in the morning to about five p.m. without noticeable creasing or fading—and I have pretty oily eyelids.Of course, there is a reason for the huge price difference, which lies in the texture. Urban Decay’s primer is more thick and creamy, making it easier to apply than E.L.F.’s watery texture. E.L.F.’s primer also has a more whitish cast, while Urban Decay is a nude that blends right into the skin. Those who use primers under their eyes (for eyeliner) may have to cover the E.L.F. primer with concealer to mask the pale circles it creates. The $15 dollar price difference, however, more than compensates.
