Director Jon Chu, of “Step Up 3D” and The LXD is now on board the Bieber Fever train, as he has been chosen by Paramount to direct the upcoming 3-D feature film about Justin Bieber, (yes, it’s actually happening) slated for a Feb. 11, 2011, Valentine’s Day weekend release date. Originally Paramount chose Davis Guggenheim, who directed “An Inconvenient Truth,” for the job but he dropped out to focus on another film.  Of his new gig, Chu said, “When I was approached about doing Justin’s film, I jumped at the opportunity to tell a story with honesty and heart. Most people don’t know that his is a true underdog story, and I hope to tell it in a compelling, genuine way, using all source materials available to convey his tale of becoming an icon for this digital age.”
Joining the team will also be producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of the Magical Elves who are behind hit reality shows “Top Chef” and “Project Runway.” Filming has already begun and will wrap up with Bieber’s Madison Square Garden concert on Aug. 31. The most recent concert films include “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience,” which grossed a sad $26 million and Michael Jackson’s “This Is It,” which grossed $261 million worldwide. It’ll be curious to see how this 16-year-old phenomenon fares in comparison to the legendary King of Pop. [via Deadline]
