Kollaboration is a non-profit organization that has long upheld their mission of “empowerment through entertainment” by showcasing the Asian American diversity that exists in the entertainment industry. This year, they’re hosting EMPOWER 2017, a three-day event November 3-5 at The Great Company in downtown Los Angeles.
The weekend will kick off with a comedy night Friday, in partnership with the viral AsianAF comedy show, with acts by Jenny Yang (BuzzFeed, DisOriented Comedy), JR De Guzman (StandUp NBC 2016 Winner), Sheng Wang (Last Comic Standing, Fresh Off the Boat), and D’Lo (DisOriented Comedy).
On Saturday, the EMPOWER creative leadership conference will be held at the Japanese American National Museum. It will include speakers such as Brad Jenkins (Funny Or Die – Executive Producer, RUN – CoFounder) and Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians – Director) as well as workshops, mentorship, and networking events.
It all ends with Kollaboration STAR, a grand showcase of talent finalists from across the country who have won their respective regional Kollaboration shows and now coming together to compete for the national title of Kollaboration STAR 2017. The performances will be held at the Aratani Theater in Little Tokyo. Finalists include Nu Ethnic (Soul/Funk Band), Matt Kong (Acoustic Singer), Alex Luu (Spoken Word Artist), Uzuhan (Rap/Hip Hop Artist), Jenna Lynn (Acoustic Singer), and Austin Valencia (Pop Folk Band).
It sounds like a great weekend jam-packed with fun and festivities. Let us know if you plan on going – maybe we’ll see you there.
