'SYTYCD' Season 7: Alex Wong and Alexie Agdeppa Come Back to Make it to Top 11

Last night was the anticipated top 10 cut on "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 7 auditions show and unlike past seasons, it was even more emotional (I teared up a few times) and dramatic than usual. In an entirely new format this season, producers only sought a top 10 instead of a top 20, as each of the new contestants will be paired with star alums from previous seasons. However, the big twist of the night came in the end, when it was announced that they decided to take a top 11, with 5 girls and 6 guys, since the guys were incredibly talented this audition. After seeing the broad range of contestants from this year's tryouts, there are high hopes for the impressive top 11 cast. That includes 23-year-old ballet dancer Alex Wong from Vancouver, who made a comeback (along with Billy Bell) from Season 6’s auditions. Wong was set to make the top 20 last season, but he was unable to break his contract with the esteemed Miami City Ballet. It was great to see him return with an all-or-nothing attitude, as he sacrificed his principal soloist position at Miami City Ballet just to make it on this show. Check out a video of Wong’s “Capture of the Tiger” solo performance to see just how ridiculously brilliant he is.

Also joining Wong is Filipina Alexie Agdeppa, a 26-year-old jazz/contemporary dancer from Rowland Heights, CA, who finally made the cut after trying out for the show four times. A graduate of UCLA, Agdeppa is a former Los Angeles Laker Girl and has performed in music videos for Prince, the Pussycat Dolls and Nelly Furtado. During auditions, she stood out with her spunky personality and diverse dance skills. Since she nailed auditions by getting all yes's from judges every round, she also holds a lot of potential this season.

The first night of competition kicks off tonight at 9 p.m./8 p.m. central on FOX, so make sure to tune in and cheer for your favorite dancers this season.
