NYFW: Z Spoke by Zac Posen S/S 2011 an Easy Favorite for the Young Crowd

The runway debut of Zac Posen’s lower-priced contemporary line, Z Spoke by Zac Posen, made a loud and clear statement. It was hard not to feel the immense hype in the room, as we immediately noticed there were celebrities everywhere in the front row. From Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons, to Michelle Trachtenberg, Jaime King, Claire Danes, Devon Aoki, Leigh Lezark and Kristin Cavallari to name a few, high expectations were set for the show. The first look, a pop of bright red in the form of a knit jersey coat over a bright animal knit tank dress, set the tone for a very vibrant, sassy and playful collection—perfect for young, budding fashionistas who aren’t afraid to stand out among the crowd. Paired with platform shoes designed in collaboration with teen-fave Steve Madden, the collection was filled with ruffled blouses, flare and fringe dresses, denim, jumpsuits and funky tees with original face and fruit prints by illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve.

The pairing of denim blazers, skirts and trousers with wonderfully quirky, colorful printed tees will surely draw the young crowd to its market, and set a trend for the spring. The short, flare dresses will draw the most attention as they create a perfect blend of spunky femininity. The diverse slew of models, (Liu Wen, Tao Okamoto, Crystal Renn), who refreshingly walked with flair, completed Posen’s overall achievement of bringing his dramatic aesthetic from his couture roots to the masses. Though we’re unsure how the pricing will be, this line will be a great alternative to Marc by Marc Jacobs.
