NYFW: Edition by Georges Chakra S/S 2011: Elegant but Modern Couture
Georges Chakra took things to another level with his Edition collection’s runway show on Sept. 10. Coming from a couture background, the designer raised the bar, showing for the fourth time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. It was showstopper after showstopper, from short body-hugging cocktail dresses to gorgeous, flowing gowns. Satin fabrics were finished off with sequined or glittered straps. Gradients appeared on many of the designs and an ethereal liquidity was created in a few amazing pieces with fluid metallic shine. Done in liquid lamé jersey, these steel and bronze gowns made an ultra-sexy statement.
Ending the show of glitz and glamour was a one-shoulder gold sequin gown with a low cowl back. The gown was incredible and had the audience gasping (not that they weren’t doing that throughout the whole show!).
Music by Michel Gaubert was energetic and fit perfectly with the visual spectacle. All elements of a production considered, the show was one of the most memorable of the week and could be summed up in three words: modern, elegant and glamorous.
