Meet the New Exec Team!

After ten years under the leadership of founders Maggie Hsu and Stephanie Wu, Mochi has transitioned to a new executive team: Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Duann Fultz, Executive Editor Kelly Moon, and President Alice Tang. Here’s a little bit about us!

Jennifer Duann Fultz

  • Staff position: Editor in Chief. I steer Mochi’s editorial and organizational direction.

  • Day job: cray-at-home mom and freelance writer

  • Hometown: Columbus, OH

  • College alma mater: THE Ohio State University

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Probably still sleep because I didn’t sleep for the first 8 months of my kid’s life and I’m still making up for it. If I really had to pick something else, I think I’d learn to cook Chinese food really well or somehow improve my Mandarin.

What job would you be terrible at?

Any kind of food service or health care. I am clumsy and forgetful under duress.

What book, game, or movie universe would you most like to live in?

I would say the Avengers universe to have superheroes around to save us, but they also tend to be really destructive. Then again, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) lives in the Marvel universe, so yeah, I guess that one.

What was the best compliment you’ve received?

Somebody once told me a pumpkin cake I’d baked was better than Krispy Kreme (and this guy loved donuts). This probably isn’t the best compliment I’ve ever received, but it’s the most memorable.

What is one goal (personal or professional) you have for 2019?

I want to finish a draft of my first novel (!). It’s a story about a second-generation Asian American mother navigating her son’s first serious relationship...with the daughter of her college ex. *dramatic music*

Biggest goal for Mochi:

In the next year or so, I want to be able to pay our staff above-market rates for their contributions. In the long run, I want to build an Asian American media EMPIRE.

Kelly Moon

  • Staff position: Executive Editor. I oversee the planning and execution of content development and serve as the EIC’s strategic partner and decision-maker.

  • Day job: Senior Editorial Manager of Content Marketing & Strategic Initiatives for an edtech company

  • Hometown: Caldwell, NJ

  • College alma mater: University of Maryland, College Park for undergrad & Syracuse University for grad

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Go to culinary school, dabble in graphic design, open a healthy cafe and travel the world.

What job would you be terrible at?

Math teacher. There’s a reason I immersed myself in the arts and humanities!

What book, game, or movie universe would you most like to live in?

Any universe where I can teleport.

What was the best compliment you’ve received?

“You have such a kind way of talking to people. Even when you’re down, you focus on how you can lift the spirits of everyone else.” This meant so much to me so I stored it away for rainy days when I needed a word of positivity.

What is one goal (personal or professional) you have for 2019?

Invest more time into my passion projects — recording music, blogging, and vlogging for a cause.

Biggest goal for Mochi:

Strengthen Mochi’s branding so it’s easily recognizable! And launch a YouTube channel dedicated to serving the Asian American female community.

Alice Tang

  • Staff position: President, I oversee all the business and non-editorial aspects of Mochi.

  • Day job: I’ve worked in analytics in finance and media & entertainment industries.

  • Hometown: Shanghai, China

  • College alma mater: Wellesley College

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

Read, look for new shows to watch, work on Mochi, volunteer.

What job would you be terrible at?

A chef. I once set ramen on fire and won’t go into detail about other kitchen debacles.

What book, game, or movie universe would you most like to live in?

Definitely Harry Potter! Attending Hogwarts looks like so much fun!

What was the best compliment you’ve received?

Probably a compliment on being well read.

What is one goal (personal or professional) you have for 2019?

Find a fulfilling and challenging job.

Biggest goal for Mochi:

Have Mochi one day be a household name, a well recognized resource, publication, and community for Asian American women.
