Meeghan Henry Crowned Miss Teen Asia USA
Like many young women, Meeghan Henry dreams of attaining her college degree to secure a job and promising future for herself. But unlike most of her other classmates, Meeghan, a freshmen at University of La Verne in California, has stood out from the crowd since childhood. For starters, she was homeschooled and took 7th and 8th grade together in one year. The 16-year-old Indonesian also dreams of stardom as a professional singer, and she is quickly turning her dream into reality.
Meeghan started singing at six years old and began writing songs soon after. She went on to release her first album at 13 (When I’m 18), and recently won the honor of Miss Teen USA, beating out more than 30 other girls. The newly crowned queen was given the chance to perform at the 72 North Lounge in Pasadena in honor of her achievement to the delight of her celebrity guests such as Romy Dames (Hannah Montana) and Disney’s Tania Gunadi.
But Meeghan also takes her new title seriously. According to an interview she did with her university, Meeghan plans on using her crown to spread the message against drugs, drinking, and bullying.
“It’s a powerful title,” she said. “Why should I just look like a queen and wear the crown without using it?”
Meeghan’s next title to tackle? Los Angeles Music Awards Pop Artist of the Year. The award will be presented on November 10 at the Avalon Theatre, but until then Meeghan is diligently working on her singing, and of course, homework.
