Makeup Mondays: Nails, Lips, and… Double Ds?
This week, we’re crushing on Jamie Chung’s jungle-themed Beauty High shoot, giving our beauty tools some TLC, lusting over Chanel’s latest limited edition beauty collection, and more. What beauty news is inspiring you this week? Tweet us at @mochimag #makeupmondays. Have a great week, dolls!
Bring on the Double D’s
BB creams overwhelmed the U.S. beauty market last year and now we’re seeing a wave of new CC (Color Control) creams like Clinique's Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector ($35) and Olay's Total Effects CC Cream($21.99). But is the next generation already here? Known for their high-quality, fun-colored nail lacquers, Julep has a DD crème, short for “Dynamic Do-All,” slated to launch this June. The DD crème evolves from its BB and CC predecessors by promising to moisturize, prime, perfect, and protect both instantly and over time. Can’t wait to see if this new product lives up to the hype!
Gorgeous actress (and former Mochi cover girl!) Jamie Chung not only models spring’s trendiest lip colors but also spills her biggest beauty secrets in Beauty High’s latest webitorial. Totally enamored by the playful shoot, I know I’ll be swiping on my favorite “rorange” (Chung’s charming word for orange and red) lipstick this week. To tame the look, dab a punchy color, like NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in Heat Wave ($26), on your finger and press it onto your lips to create a subtler, stained look. Who’ll be joining me?
Hong Kong Crush
Chanel’s latest three-piece limited edition collection is Hong-Kong inspired. The pearly white of the Eastern Light nail lacquer($30) and the shimmery plum of the Western Light($30) fuse together in the collection’s palette ($80) to create a spectrum of five elegant (and wearable!) eye shadow shades. This is one collection I’ll definitely be splurging on! Modern white nails are so in for spring and the classic colors of the palette will never be passé.
The MWAH Wall
The Glitter Guide found this adorable image on Pinterest, which they replicated in their own office. This would be a super cute (and cheap) DIY to copy on your own spartan dorm room walls. Have your best girlfriends leave you a kiss on an index card or post it note in their favorite lip color, then have them write their names underneath. So fun!
Spring Clean Your Beauty Tools
Do you spring clean? Whether spring cleaning encompasses the daunting task of cleaning your closet (to make room for new clothes, of course!) or a quick vacuum around the apartment (hey, no judgment), make sure to add your favorite beauty tools to your routine. While there are several articles around the web showing you how to clean your brushes, BellaSugar compiled a great list of how to care for your beauty toolkit. Guess who just sharpened her tweezers with a nail file?
Netflix Your Nail Polish
The latest innovation on my radar? Lacquerous. For $18 a month, this rental service will send you three designer lacquers (they’ve got everything from Deborah Lippmann to Tom Ford) to gussy up your fingertips. When you’re ready for more, just send the polishes back and they’ll send you three more. Best. Idea. Ever. If you love variety but don’t want to share, Fashionista did a great roundup of monthly nail polish subscription services.
