Kollaboration Boston Is Back
Kollaboration Boston is hosting its 3rd annual Asian American talent show competition at the Berklee Performance Center on October 11 at 7:30 pm. Seven incredible finalists are competing for a $1,000 prize and a chance to fly to Los Angeles for a $20,000 grand prize national show-down. Boston finalists include dance crews Movement Box and UPdrifting, music artists Angel & Will, Justin Oppus, and LuDow, pianist Daesun Yim, and yo-yo performer Derek Hsu. Kollaboration was founded in Los Angeles in 2000 and has currently expanded to 13 different cities, all with the motto "Empowerment through Entertainment." Each chapter produces annual city-wide talent show competitions to inspire Asian American local talent and provide an outlet for expression, ranging from music and dance to beat-boxing and comedy.
This year's guest performers and judges include AJ Rafael and Ellen Kim. AJ Rafael is a singer-songwriter with over 450,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel and is known for his smooth R&B vocals and heartfelt lyrics. He has recently started a new YouTube show called "Music Lab," which chronicles the song-writing process in three hours or less.
Ellen Kim is a dancer and choreographer with dance videos garnering more than 6 million views. One of her most well-known routines is done to T-Pain's song, "Booty Work," which was partially shot in negative camera mode and has more than 1 million views alone. She has worked with popular artists in the past such as Beyonce, Amerie, LL Cool J, Snoop Dog, and Pharrell Williams.
Last year's winner, Justin Chiou, will also make an appearance and perform onstage once more before passing on the honors to the next Kollaboration winner. Who do you think has what it takes to win the $1000 prize money?
Regular ticket sales available until the day of the show. For more information, visit the official website here.
