Jimmy Wong: the Next YouTube Star?
Oh YouTube, you've blessed us yet again with another Asian American musical sensation: Jimmy Wong. Wong is a 24-year-old artist based in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up in Seattle, Washington, and like any good ol’ Asian American, he studied classical piano for 8 years. Aside of being an actor and musician, Wong and his brother Freddie run a media production company called Overcrank Media, which specializes in feature films and online video content.
After his clever and hilarious response to Alexandra Wallace’s “Asians in the Library” video, Wong has garnered quite a fan following. Since then, he recorded his rendition of Britney Spears’ song “Till the World Ends.” The rock rendition has a special appearance by my favorite little round animal—Totoro.
If you decide to purchase Wong’s songs on iTunes or Bandcamp, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charity by Jimmy himself. Good songs and helping out the world? It can’t get any better than that.
