Grand Opening of Museum of Chinese in America in NYC

gnav_logo Today was the grand opening of the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) in its new location at 215 Centre Street in New York City. The MOCA was first established nearly 30 years ago, and has served its "role as the leading museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and culture of people of Chinese descent in the U.S."

Designed by artist and architect Maya Lin, the new building for the MOCA boasts a 14,000 square foot space, a skylit courtyard, an auditorium/classroom, a research center and interactive display kiosks.

As part of the grand opening, the MOCA will also reveal its core exhibition on the history of the Chinese American experience, “With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America,” and an art exhibition featuring contemporary artists of Chinese descent living in New York, “Here & Now: Chinese Artists in New York.”

MOCA will have special hours during its free opening week (five free days): Tuesday, September 22: 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm (last entry at 3:30 pm) Wednesday, September 23: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:30 pm) Thursday, September 24: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:30 pm) Friday, September 25: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:30 pm) Saturday, September 26: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (last entry at 4:30 pm)

Beginning Sunday, September 27, the Museum’s hours will be: Monday: 11am-5pm Tuesday: Closed Wednesday: Closed Thursday: 11am-9pm Friday: 11am-5pm Saturday: 10am-5pm Sunday: 10am-5pm The Museum is closed to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except for prescheduled group tours and special programs.

Admission: General Admission: $7 Seniors (w/ID) and Students (w/school ID): $4 Children under 12 in groups less than 8: free MOCA Members: free Target Free Thursdays: Free gallery admission every Thursday through the generosity of Target
