Get ready for the 2011 East Coast Asian American Student Union Conference

This year, the ECAASU (East Coast Asian American Student Union) intercollegiate conference will be held at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The conference is designed to bring Asian American students together in order to strengthen the community, empower students to make a difference, and “advance the social equality of minorities.” Each year, a different college hosts the conference and schedules events such as mixers, student workshops, film screenings and guest speakers. This year’s Keynote speakers are Vijay Prashad (George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and professor of International Studies at Trinity College) Kent Wong (Director of the UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education) and Lai Wa Wu (Program Coordinator of MIT’s Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program). So far, announced performers include Paul “PK” Kim (founder of Kollaboration), Dumbfoundead and DJ Zo, Beau Sia (slam poet), Staceyann Chin (spoken word poet), Sam Kang (musician Geunjin), and Brownstar. While the Facebook page for the conference announced that discounted hotel rates were all taken, registration is still open on the ECAASU webpage for $60.
