FW 2010: Davidelfin's New Take on Androgyny
Though all the hype’s in Milan right now for Fashion Week, we wanted to give a recap of a few more shows from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week that are still lingering in our minds. On the last day of New York Fashion Week, Davidelfin was the first show on Mochi’s schedule. Before the show had even started, we noticed one particularly exciting item on the credits sheet: "Shoes, Christian Louboutin for Davidelfin." Hope these will make it to stores! The lights dimmed and music by Björk began to play, while a blanket of smoke seeped over the runway. Emerging from the darkness, the first model walked out sporting a head of bright yellow hair—a shocking visual that has become a staple in the past two collections by designer David Delfín. Yellow continued throughout the entire look in the form of a mustard suit and matching Louboutin ankle boots, clearly marked by the signature red sole.
Many of the succeeding looks appeared to be versions of the same styles, with one style for women and one for men. It provided an interesting sense of déja vu and was an appropriate extension of the androgynous trend that has been pervasive for several seasons. The Davidelfin fall/winter collection was monochromatic over all, aside from a black and white plaid and snakeskin pattern textile, both of which added necessary texture to the collection.
