Fashion's Night Out: Participating Asian American Designers
This Thursday, Sept. 10, is the much-anticipated, Fashion’s Night Out, brought together by American Vogue, NYC & Company, the city of New York and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, as a global initiative “to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion.” On this night, which kicks off the start of the spring/summer 2010 Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, over 800 participating shops will stay open until 11 p.m., hosting festivities including celebrity, designer and model appearances, limited-edition sales and musical performances – as you shop away. Below are some highlights from prominent Asian American designers.
3.1 Phillip Lim will release a limited-edition collection, comprised of five pieces based on signature styles from his past archive, which are re-fabricated and updated for the fall season. The designer himself will make an appearance at his SoHo store, along with some special friends who will offer personal styling tips.
Vera Wang will be hosting two events – one at her ready-to-wear boutique and one at the Vera Wang Bridal House. At her ready-to-wear boutique in SoHo, Wang will be accompanied by American Idol judge, Kara Dioguardi, and other special guests. Shoppers can get photographed with Wang in the “studio booth,” sip on “Vera Vodka,” and receive giveaways including Vera Wang Lavender Label shoes and Vera Wang sun-wear.
For the event at Vera Wang Bridal House, you’ll have the opportunity to decorate a wedding cake with Sylvia Weinstock, arrange a flower bouquet with Michael George, receive nutritional tips from celebrity nutritionist Oz Garcia, and much more. There will be raffle prizes which include a two-hour personal flower arrangement class with Michael George, and a six-month consultation by Oz Garcia.
The 2009 CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Award winner, Anna Sui, (who will also be launching her Gossip Girl-inspired collection for Target on Sept. 13) will be giving away a special gift with every purchase over $50.
Michelle Obama’s personal favorite, Jason Wu, has created a limited-edition doll based on his fall 2009 collection, which will be exclusively sold for Fashion’s Night Out at Jeffrey New York. In addition, Kirna Zabête boutique will be selling 10 original framed sketches by Jason Wu, and Wu's signature print from his spring 2008 collection reissued on a superfine jersey T-shirt.
Vivienne Tam will be throwing a party at her flagship store in SoHo. There will be complimentary glass of champagne, a chance to look at her new fall collection, and a raffle to win prizes including a “Save the Pandas” accessory and a surprise dress.
