Far East Movement's New Single
Our favorite rap/hip-hop quartet, Far East Movement, performed their recent new single, “If I Was You (OMG),” for celebrity blogger Perez Hilton’s online video blog PerezTV. The cool thing about this exclusive version is that the guys are playing keyboards, in addition to using laptops, DJ equipment, clapping and having Kev Nish fully auto-tuned. It all works together somehow to create a great product that rivals the original. As for the group, I must add that it's a little strange to see them sitting down. I'm familiar with the guys jumping up and down on stage, getting the audience hyped up during their shows, but this is a nice change from the usual, and their energy and passion about the music still radiates.
“If I Was You (OMG)” gets the group back in the clubs, funky beats and all, and is the third single off of their debut album Free Wired and features the great rapper Snoop Dogg. This song, as with “Like a G6” and “Rocketeer,” is very infectious and will have you singing the chorus, if not dancing along to it. I'm sensing a pattern of singles with these guys that goes back and forth between club hits and mellow tunes. Far East Movement has another club hit on their hands.
I know we’ve covered the group in earlier blogs, but I can’t stress enough how nice it is to have an Asian American musical group getting achievements that these guys have gotten (and will continue to) receive. Far East Movement have worked extremely hard and proved the "one-hit wonder" critics wrong. In addition, because of their mindblowing success with "Like a G6" reaching No. 1 in 2010, a first for any Asian American group, Far East Movement have opened the doors of the music industry for more Asian American acts in the future if not right at this moment.
