Concept Korea Returns to NY Fashion Week to Showcase Leading Korean Designers
With the growing popularity of fashion design among Asian youth and the notable rise of Asian American designers (Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim, Richard Chai) in the fashion industry, it's encouraging to hear about initiatives like Concept Korea, a program backed by the South Korean government to nurture their nation's leading designers and promote them in the U.S. fashion industry. After debuting in Feb. 2010, Concept Korea will be returning to New York Fashion Week on Sept. 9 for their fourth installment, "Concept Korea IV - Fashion Collective."
After a rigorous evaluation process, four womenswear designers (DOHO, Son Jung Wan, Steve J & Yoni P, and Lie Sang Bong) and one menswear designer (Juyoung Lee) were chosen by an international panel consisting of figures from CFDA, FIT, IMG Fashion, and WWD, to showcase their S/S 2012 collections.
It's so great when the government can support the arts, especially fashion design, and we're excited to see the standout talent and designs to come out of South Korea next week.
