Chinese American Tina Tchen Promoted to Chief of Staff to the First Lady

On Wednesday, Tina Tchen was promoted to Chief of Staff to the First Lady and Assistant to the President. Tchen, who is Chinese American, most recently served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Public Engagement, in addition to serving as Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls. Said President Obama in an official statement, "Tina’s success leading the Office of Public Engagement, reaching out to people across the country and encouraging Americans from all walks of life to feel connected to this White House, makes her uniquely qualified to step up to this position."Tchen is the second Asian American to recently grace headlines for her impressive work and promotion in the White House, for Pete Rouse, who is Japanese American, was the first Asian American to be appointed as White House Chief of Staff back in October. [via WhiteHouse.gov]
