Spring’s Hottest Beauty Trend: Sweet and Dainty Pastel Makeup

Soft-hued makeup—which always reminds us of our favorite French macarons—complemented glowy complexions on the runways this spring. At Roberto Cavalli and Vera Wang, models looked gorgeously dewy with sheer washes of color on the eyelids and cheeks. This season, we show you how to take a cue from the fashion greats and embrace your sweet side while showing off what Mother Nature has given you.

Don’t worry, it’s easy. Start with moisturized skin and add touches of lilac shadow and apricot blush, then add a swirl of bronzer. Swipe on a bit of lipstick or give the nails a quick paint, if you’re so inclined, and you’re ready to embrace spring’s pretty pastels—no makeup artist required!

Our beauty black book:

Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Lacquer in Sky ($6): Launched in January, Crabtree & Evelyn’s debut collection of nail lacquers offer tons of dreamy spring-friendly shades. Sky, a creamy light blue, is perfect for dipping your toes (pun intended!) into spring’s pastel trend.

Smashbox Love Me Blush ($28): Get a pretty glow by swirling a peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks with a fluffy brush. Apricot pink blushes, like this one, are super flattering against most Asian skin tones.

L’Oreal Color Riche Shadow Quad in Stacked Heels ($7.95): Create infinite looks with the four versatile lilacs in this quad. Dust one of the lighter shades all over your lid to create an understated pop of color—or use all the shades for an alluring smoky eye.

Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Stone Grey ($20): Soften your eyes by trading in your intense black liner for a cool gray one. The smooth pencil makes application a breeze, and the color won’t budge, so you don’t have to worry about the dreaded raccoon eyes.

Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Ample Amber ($16): This easy-to-use deep pinky nude is perfect for adding barely there color to your eyes. Wear the creamy color as a subtle, luminous tint or layer to build a more intense bronze shadow.

Pixi Soft Focus Fresh Palette ($34): This new-for-spring palette has your eyes, face and lips all covered. Naturally brighten eyes with the 12 neutral shadows and illuminate cheeks with the rosy blushes and deep bronzers. Finish by mixing and matching the four glossy lip colors to create a flawlessly illuminated face.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in Rossetto ($4.92): Kate Moss is at it again! Celebrate the new season with this vibrant lipstick. One swipe of this bright pink will liven up your whole face.

Estee Lauder Nail Lacquer in Lilac Leather ($20): Estee Lauder’s Heavy Petals collection features five fresh pastel colors that scream spring. We especially love Lilac Leather, an elegant lilac-pink polish with the brand’s signature glossy, long-wear finish.

Mor Salt and Sugar Scrub ($22): Slough off dry winter skin and get your legs ready for shorts with Mor’s salt and sugar scrub. The avocado and jojoba oil-infused formula really delivers—not to mention the orange tub adds a pretty splash of color to the shower.

Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA Hydrating Hibiscus Whipped Body Cream ($13.99): This light but rich cream will keep your body fully nourished and moisturized. The subtle floral fragrance makes moisturizing daily a mini-luxury.

Jurlique Purely Bright Mist ($34): Keep your skin healthy with this super-powered mist that reduces redness, fights dark spots, encourages firmness and promotes clarity. Spray directly onto your face after cleansing to reap the benefits.
