Innovative kits and new technologies make it easier than ever to create funky-fab manicures—even if you can barely paint your nails. Great for a night out or to switch-up your regular look, these special effects promise to impress.
Ciaté Velvet Manicure Kit in Berry Poncho ($19): Ciaté, the same brand behind the caviar manicure, has created this easy-to-use set with an unexpected dimension. After applying the first coat normally, paint the second coat and sprinkle some of the crushed velvet onto the wet nail. To make cleanup a snap, do your manicure over the included tray, then just brush the excess back into the bottle for next time. This manicure will only look great for two days tops, so save it for special occasions.
Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Vice ($14): Illamasqua’s rubber finishes first launched this summer, with much buzz over its distinctive waxy finish, and are now available in fall/winter shades. We love Vice, an elegant raspberry with a finish that sets it apart from your average berry shades. Even without a top coat, the polish still manages to last five to seven days.
Nail Rock 3D Glitter Designer Wraps in Glitter Mix ($13.19): For the holidays, Nail Rock has launched four 3D wrap-on designs in a variety of patterns. Prepare your nail for application by pushing back cuticles and removing shine with nail polish remover. Next, trim the wrap as needed, then firmly press on, starting from the cuticle and working your way to the tip, smoothing bumps as you go along. Tuck the excess under your nail’s edge and file off.
Sneak Peek: OPI by Mariah Carey Liquid Sand in Stay the Night, $9 (Launches in January, opi.com for locations): Mariah Carey’s OPI collection will feature four “studio” shades, with crème and glitter finishes, and four “stage” shades, with OPI’s new liquid sand technology—which delivers an unprecedented sparkly, textured, matte finish. Of all the stay shades, we especially love Stay the Night, a stylish dark black with red sparkle.
Sneak Peek: China Glaze Tranzitions in Modify Me, $7 (Launches in January at sallybeauty.com): Modify Me, part of China Glaze’s newest collection, first appears to be a pretty periwinkle. Add a top coat, and the shade transforms to a darker indigo. Starting in January, China Glaze will offer six 2-in-1 shades, including Modify Me. These special polishes react with top coat to develop more intense color, which make two-tone nail art designs easier than ever. Just add the top coat onto the part of your nail (think the tips, or a half) you want to change—no extra colors needed!
