These 4 Body Parts Are Overlooked When It Comes to Sunscreen: Here’s What to Add to Your Beauty Arsenal

If you’re at all concerned with the health of your skin, you probably already know how important sun protection is. You might think adding SPF to your facial skincare routine is enough to ward off aging and sun damage, but there are a few areas that people often forget need shielding from the sun too. Here is a list of easy-to-forget places with both  affordable and high-end product recommendations to protect against the sun.

Lips

The skin on your lips is especially thin and delicate and can get sunburnt too, which is  extremely unpleasant. It’s wise to always have a lip balm with SPF handy.

Budget: Softlips SPF 15 (two-pack for $2.99) – This drugstore staple moisturizes lips and provides just enough sun protection to prevent burns. The low cost also means you can stock up and have one in your purse, vanity, car, and office.

Splurge: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 ($24) – With sturdy metal twist-open packaging and a slightly moisturizing formula, the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments are a consistent best-seller at Sephora. These come in both a clear version as well as a range of tints from neutral nudes to a dark berry so you get a lip color as well as a deeply nourishing balm.

Under Eye Area

Some sunscreens can sting near the eyes and it’s easy to miss the under eye area when we’re focused on protecting the larger planes of the face. The area around our eyes is one of the first places to lose elasticity as we age so we definitely want to take precaution to keep that skin healthy.

Budget: Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer For Eyes Broad Spectrum SPF 20 ($9.50) – This is a great option for those of you who stay up late studying for exams, working on your side hustle, or, if we’re being honest, binge-watching Netflix and waking up with crazy dark eye circles.

Splurge: Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 37 ($32) – This daytime eye cream is specially formulated to deliver moisture and SPF to the under eye area, without the irritation. The unique metal-tip applicator imparts a soothing and refreshing feeling to give your eyes an added lift.

Hands

We tend to wash our hands often and leave this area of our body vulnerable to the effects of the sun, especially if you drive with your hands exposed to the sun. You can always use a travel size of your favorite facial sunscreen, but there are also good formulations made specifically with your hands in mind.

Budget: Eucerin Daily Hydration Broad Spectrum Hand Crème SPF 30 ($6) – This drugstore find is not only affordable but also great for sensitive skin since it is fragrance- and paraben-free.

Splurge: Shiseido ‘Benefiance WrinkleResist24’ Protective Hand Revitalizer SPF 15 ($38) – While this hand cream costs a pretty penny, the moisturizing formula means you only need a small amount per application. It’s also formulated with anti-aging in mind so your hands can retain their youthful smoothness.

Hair

Your scalp is easy to forget because it’s often covered by your hair, but a sunburned scalp is not pleasant at all. You could always wear a hat to physically block your scalp from the sun. Otherwise, opt for a spray formula that can be easily spritzed into hair.

Budget: Banana Boat Sport Quik Dri Scalp Spray Sunscreen SPF 30 ($8.50) – Athletes, this one’s for you. This non-greasy, water-resistant formula also dries clear so you won’t have any streaks in your hair.

Splurge: Clarins Sunscreen Care Oil Spray SPF 30 for Skin & Hair ($36) – If you spend a lot of time at the pool or beach, this multi-purpose body and hair oil will not only protect you from the sun but moisturize your scalp as well.

Suncare is an easy thing to forget — until you get a burn. There are both affordable and luxurious products that can help keep your face, body and hair protected. Have any favorite suncare recommendations? Leave a comment with your SPF must-haves!
